Grilled heirloom tomatoes and fresh grated horseradish root makes this Bloody Mary a standout, a new summertime staple. Make the mix a day in advance for the best bloodies.

Fresh Mary Mix:
- 3 large beefsteak tomatoes
- 1 T fresh horseradish root, grated
- 2 T pickle brine
- 1 T hot sauce
- 1 t worcestershire
- 1 t smoked paprika
- 1/2 t salt
- 1/2 t honey
- 1/4 t cumin
Oil grill grates and set to medium-high (can also be done directly on gas stove) . Char beefsteak tomatoes. Purée tomatoes in high speed blender. Combine with the rest of ingredients. Put mix in the fridge overnight.

- garnish: lemon wheel, pickle wheel, parsley, chili pepper, old bay for rim
Using a lemon wedge, wet the outside of a highball glass. Roll glass in a small plate of old bay for rim. Fill highball glass with ice. Add vodka, followed by bloody mix- fill to about 1 in. from tap. Throw cocktail: pass the drink between the highball and a cocktail tin a few times until chilled. Garnish cocktail with lemon, pickles, pepper, etc.
